Disclaimer & Responsible Use

PlainExercise is a free informational resource that makes open-licensed exercise data easier to read. It is not medical, physical-therapy, or personal-training advice, and it does not certify any exercise as safe for you specifically. Use it as a starting point for learning how movements work — not as a substitute for professional guidance.

Informational only, not professional advice

Nothing on PlainExercise constitutes medical, physical-therapy, or personal-training advice, and using the site does not create any professional relationship. Exercise carries inherent injury risk, and the right movement, load, and progression depend on your individual health, history, and goals. Consult a physician or a certified trainer before starting any new exercise program — especially if you have pre-existing medical conditions, recent surgery, cardiovascular concerns, joint injuries, or are pregnant. Stop any exercise that causes sharp or persistent pain.

What this data is, and is not

The exercise records on PlainExercise come from open-licensed community datasets (Free Exercise DB and wger.de). The instructions, muscle targets, and equipment tags reflect what those sources document — they are a general reference, not a personalized prescription. Muscle-target information describes which muscles a movement typically involves, not how it will feel for any individual. Synthetic equipment variations are generated from a base exercise and marked as such; they indicate a plausible swap, not a clinically validated alternative. The calorie estimator uses standard MET values from the Compendium of Physical Activities and produces rough estimates only, not measured energy expenditure.

Data freshness and accuracy

We refresh the database periodically from the upstream sources and work to keep it accurate and aligned with them, but we cannot guarantee it is complete, current, or free of upstream limitations. The absence of a listed risk or contraindication for an exercise does not mean none exists. If you spot something that looks wrong, please report it through our editorial & corrections policy.
